Pastor Artis Fletcher's great-grandparents were slaves. Fletcher grew up in Rankin County on a 540 acre plantation owned by his father, Argell Fletcher.
In 1983, Cynthia Fletcher filed a lawsuit against the state of Mississippi and the Simpson County School Board.
